Idera Tuesday announced a new version of its back-up and recovery software for Windows SQL Server environments.
SQLsafe 3.0 has a number of new features, including its support of SQL Server 2005. Among other new features is support for Itanium and x64-based servers, a new Web console and the use of new encryption algorithms for protecting data.
Idera President and CEO Rick Plezcko says the company has seen a rapid adoption of 64-bit servers running SQL Server. That adoption is the crux of the announcement that Idera is working with NEC and its Express 5800 servers, Emulex and Texas Memory Systems to set a benchmark for 64-bit database operation.
The new Web console allows customers to monitor and manage SQLsafe operations remotely from any Web browser. It complements SQLsafe's thick-client Windows-based management console.
Encryption includes basic RC2, as well as Rijndael 256-bit encryption to protect data. This is particularly useful in meeting regulatory compliance guidelines.
SQLsafe can reside on a dedicated or shared machine. Agents are placed on servers that need to be backed up.
Idera counts as its clients: Pittsburgh Glass, Valero Energy and CyberTrader. The company, which was founded in 2003, is funded by Austin Ventures and has 120 employees.
SQLsafe 3.0 is $995 per SQL Server instance.
