ADIC Tuesday announced that it is acquiring Rocksoft for $63 million cash.

Rocksoft, of Australia, has patented data de-duplication software that eliminates redundant data throughout the storage network. The company's Blocklets technology identifies the unique data elements that need to be stored, migrated or managed, allowing customers to retain more information on less physical storage.

ADIC will add Rocksoft's software to its portfolio of disk-based and tape-based back-up technologies. The company claims that using Blocklets reduces the amount of data stored by as much as 20 times.

The acquisition of Rocksoft also brings continuous data protection to ADIC's products. Veracity, can efficiently store many prior versions of data and offer rollback of data to previous states without requiring massive storage capacity.

Rocksoft was founded in 2000 and launched its Blocklets technology in 2004.

The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
