According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, Level 3 is expected on Monday to announce plans to acquire TelCove in a deal valued at about $1 billion.
TelCove is the fourth buy for Level 3 in six months. The most notable was its purchase of WilTel Communications in October for about $700 million.
The service provider also acquired regional provider Progressive Telecom for about $68.5 million in March and announced its plans to acquired ICG Communications for about $163 million in April.
TelCove, formerly known as Adelphia Business Solutions, offers telecommunications, data and Internet access services along its 22,000 route miles of local and long-haul fiber. TelCove also has direct fiber access to 4,000 office buildings along the east coast.
