Online address book maker Plaxo on Tuesday announced the integration of Jajah’s VoIP-based calling service that will give Plaxo users a “click-to-call” feature.
Called Plaxo Click to Call and available now, the new feature will let users click on any phone number stored in their Plaxo online address book to initiate a phone call, according to company officials.
With this integration, Plaxo automatically enters the caller and recipient’s phone numbers into the Jajah Web site. The Jajah service calls the caller’s phone over the Internet and then the recipient’s phone and the connection is made.
No VoIP software is required, and users don’t need special headphones or microphones, or even a high-speed broadband connection, they say. The connection can be made with landline or mobile phones, locally or via long distance; all that is required is an Internet connection.
Plaxo Click to Call is offered as part of the Web-based version of the Plaxo service, which is free. Plaxo users get five free minutes of calling time, after which Jajah’s service charges kick in. A local phone call, for example, costs $0.017 per minute.
