Nextlink Wireless this week said Robert Beran has joined the company as its CEO.

Beran replaces Tom Cady, Nextlink president, who is staying on "for the next couple of months" to help Beran transition into his new role, a spokesman at XO Holdings, Nextlink's parent, said.

"Tom was instrumental in building the Nextlink team and launching Nextlink," the spoksman stated in an e-mail response. "An opportunity arose for Bob to join Nextlink and he will take what Tom has started and grow the business even further. Bob…is a seasoned fixed-wireless industry executive who will take Nextlink to that next phase of growth, operationally and through customer acquisition."

Beran, a 20-year industry veteran, also becomes a senior vice president at XO Holdings. He was recruited from First Avenue Networks, where he was senior vice president of operations for the fixed wireless company.

Cady helped relaunch Nextlink last month as a provider of fixed wireless broadband services to businesses, government agencies and other service providers. CLECs Nextlink and Concentric merged in 2000 to form XO.
