Crossbeam has come out with two security devices for mid-size businesses that support multiple security applications made by other vendors.

The devices, the C12 and C25, can support anti-virus, intrusion detection and prevention, firewall, content filtering and XML security as provided by security vendors Check Point, Forum Systems, Trend Micro and Websense.

The new devices come with a set of features that are new to the C series of Crossbeam devices. These include Virtual Tap, which is the ability for intrusion detection sensors to screen traffic in parallel with the firewall without affecting performance.

They also include application-based failover, so if an application goes down, another instance of it kicks in. The devices support detecting router failures on the network and switching to a separate route.

New features include the capability to load configuration of the devices on a USB memory stick that a C-series device can use when it boots up, making it possible to quickly restore configuration to a corrupted machine.

These devices are designed for midsize businesses with one site or for branch offices of larger organizations.

The C12 supports eight Gigabit Ethernet ports and the C25 supports up to 12 ports, including both copper and fiber. Throughput on the devices varies depending on what applications are running, but firewall throughput is 4Gbps for the C12 and 6Gbps for the C25.

The C25 is available now with pricing starting at $24,000. The C12 is available next month and pricing starts at $12,000.
