IBM Wednesday released Version 6.0 of its Workplace Web Content Management platform, adding new authoring and editing features, that promise to give users the same tool for managing any Web-based content regardless of where it is published.
IBM says the software, which plugs into its WebSphere platform or can run as a stand-alone, is targeted at both internal and external Web sites.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) uses Web Content Manager for its U.S. Open tennis tournament site. During this year’s tournament, the Web site generated 26 million visits in 14 days or 50 times the usual traffic when the tournament is not in progress.
Jeff Volk, director of advanced media for the USTA said the ease-of-use of the software helped the USTA quickly get up to speed editors, photographers and others brought in for the tournament.
“The ability for a person to quickly get into the system, update their story, publish and preview it and have an editor push it live is a very important aspect of our strategy,” Volk says. He also said mechanisms to control relevancy of content, such as when it is published and for how long, helps keep the site fresh as the tournament plays out and helps keep happy those companies that sponsor the content, such as Player of the Day.
