St. Bernard Software to buy managed security service

Security vendor St. Bernard Software plans to acquire Singlefin, a provider of hosted security services.

Founded in 2001, Singlefin sells Internet-based services that companies can use to weed out unwanted e-mail messages, and to filter Web and instant messaging traffic. The seven-employee company also provides Web and e-mail hosting services.

St. Bernard, a vendor of e-mail and Internet filtering appliances, will start offering customers hosted services products once the acquisition is completed, company President and COO Vincent Rossi said in a statement.

The acquisition is expected to be concluded by the end of the month, a spokeswoman for the company's public relations agency said. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

Singlefin claims about 900 enterprise customers and includes United Online's Juno and NetZero Internet service providers among its users.

About 7.5 million people use the Singlefin e-mail filtering service.
