With Internet Explorer, Microsoft has increased its share of the global Web browser market to 85.85%, a gain that comes at the expense of Mozilla's Firefox and Apple Computer's Safari browsers.

Microsoft's numbers have risen 2.8% since July, according to research by OneStat.com.

Firefox's share of the worldwide browser market has shrunk to 11.49%, down 1.44% since July. Apple's Safari has lost 0.23% of its worldwide market share since July, and now has a 1.61% share, OneStat.com says.

Firefox has been dogged of late by reports of bugs.

Opera and Netscape round out the list of top Web browsers worldwide.

Firefox is more popular in the United States than it is worldwide, grabbing a 14.88% U.S. market share. Internet Explorer has an 80.77% share of the U.S. browser market, and Apple Safari has 3.41%.
