The son of the CEO of the Indian operations of Adobe Systems was kidnapped Monday in Noida near Delhi by two as yet unidentified persons.

The son of Adobe India CEO Naresh Gupta was on his way to school with a maid, when the abductors struck in broad daylight in an upmarket sector of Noida, according to the Noida police.

Gupta is out of the country.

Kidnappings, house thefts and roadside robberies are common in India, and in many cases the targets are well-paid IT professionals.

The boom in the IT and business process outsourcing industries in India has created a large economic divide -- and resentment -- between literate Indians and the large number of illiterate people in the country.

The motive for the abduction is not known as yet. The abductors have neither requested a ransom or tried to contact the child's family, police said.

The Adobe development center in Noida is involved in developing technologies used in the company's products and providing other services, such as localization of Adobe Reader in other languages.
