Secure Computing Monday announced an upgrade to its Webwasher suite -- gateway security software that offers customers threat protection via an integrated reputation system -- as well as new antimalware features.

Available now, Webwasher 6.0 integrates CipherTrust’s TrustedSource, which calculates a reputation score based on sending patterns and history for each IP address that sends e-mail. TrustedSource feeds information to Webwasher about URLs embedded in e-mails identified by the reputation system as spam or phishing, and automatically blocks Webwasher customers from visiting those sites, says Tim Roddy, Secure Computing’s director of product marketing.

This integration occurred within 75 days of Secure Computing acquiring CipherTrust, according to company officials. Secure Computing plans to integrate TrustedSource across its product line.

With Version 6.0, Secure Computing also has integrated TrustedSource in the suite’s antispam module, so that connection requests coming from known spammers are blocked automatically, says Roddy.

Also with this release, Secure Computing has added an antimalware module combining signature-based protection from known malware, as well as the company’s own ProActive Security filters based on behavioral analysis that detects blended or unknown malware, Roddy says.

Webwasher comprises Web-filtering, antivirus, antimalware and SSL scanning modules, which sit at an organization’s gateway to protect against threats that enter via the Web, such as viruses, Trojan horses, and malware, and also scan outbound Web traffic for compliance with corporate norms.

Secure Computing competes with Web security vendors including Symantec, F-Secure and McAfee.

The software is available for the Windows, Linux and Solaris operating systems. Pricing depends on the number of users, length of license and functions chosen. For example, the full suite would cost about $164,000 for one year, for a 5,000-employee organization and $262,000 for one year, for a 10,000-employee organization.

The software also comes preconfigured with three new appliance options: Webwasher WW500 costs $3,000 and supports as many as 4,000 users, Webwasher WW1100 costs $7,000 and supports as many as 8,000 users, and Webwasher WW1900 costs $14,000 and supports as many as 16,000 users.
