Reconnex on Wednesday announced a new version of its data-leak protection appliance aimed at midsize companies.
The Reconnex iGuard 2600S offers the same protection against data leakage as the company’s existing iGuard 2600, but is tuned for midsize organizations with lower-bandwidth networks than enterprise organizations typically have, according to company officials. The 2600S was also designed to be easy to install, set up and administer on a day-to-day basis, they say.
The appliance, which is deployed at network egress points, includes preconfigured policies that block information from leaving an organization that is protected by federal regulations including Sarbanes Oxley, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and Gramm Leach Bliley, and includes customizable rules to cover company policy, legal accountability, and employee appropriate-use issues, says officials.
The Reconnex iGuard 2600S is based on Release 5.0 of the company’s software, which includes enhancements that focus on helping companies find sensitive data at rest in the organization so that it can be flagged for alerting and blocking if viewed by an unauthorized user or sent out of the organization against company policies, officials say.
Version 5.0 also includes new tools to help customers analyze and update their rules that decide what is considered sensitive and how that information should be handled. These new features go beyond the previous versions, which centered on alerting customers when sensitive information was being viewed by unauthorized users or leaving the company.
The Reconnex 2600S is priced starting at $35,000, significantly lower than the enterprise-focused 2600, which starts at $48,000. The company defines midsize organizations as having roughly 500 employees or greater. The 2600S is available through Reconnex’s network of value-added resellers.
