Fiberlink Communications on Monday launched a managed service designed to help customers protect mobile devices and data on them.

The new Data Encryption Service is based on a combination of Credant Technologies' Mobile Guardian encryption product and Fiberlink's Extend360Mobility Platform. The service can be used in lieu of separate onsite hardware and software products that customers could deploy to offer similar data encryption support on laptops and other mobile devices, Fiberlink says.

Fiberlink says it is hosting and managing Credant’s Mobile Guardian software in its operations center.

Because the security software is integrated into Extend360, Fiberlink’s existing platform for all of its remote access customers, customers do not need to deploy new gear.

Customers use the new service by defining security polices for end users. If these policies are not followed, access to the corporate network will be blocked. These policies will typically include encrypting data on the end user’s hard drive and external storage devices.

Fiberlink says its new service allows its customers to more easily comply with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

The service is available now. The vendor did not provide pricing information.
