Secure Computing on Monday announced new versions of its firewall and Web security appliances that take advantage of reputation data collected by its TrustedSource scoring system.

Slated for availability in March, Sidewinder 7.0 includes the TrustedSource database that Secure Computing acquired when it bought e-mail security vendor CipherTrust in 2006, says Paul Judge, CTO of Secure Computing. TrustedSource provides reputation information on URLs, domains and IP addresses by analyzing their content and e-mail sending habits.

By integrating this information into the firewall, Sidewinder is made aware of the reputation of sources trying to connect to an organization and can drop those deemed malicious, Judge says; therefore preventing spam and phishing attacks from entering the network while saving on bandwidth and server processing. Sidewinder already includes Secure Computing’s SmartFilter database of Web sites that an organization should block access to; the addition of TrustedSource will give Sidewinder even more information about malicious threats on the Internet, Judge says.

Other new features in Sidewinder 7.0 include performance enhancements, unified policy management, and application-based VoIP security capabilities, Judge says. Sidewinder 7.0 is priced from $1,500 to $75,900, based on performance and throughput requirements.

Secure Computing has also added its TrustedSource database to its Webwasher Web security appliance. Version 6.5 uses information from TrustedSource and SmartFilter to protect users from Web sites that host phishing attacks or download malware, Judge says. With the addition of TrustedSource, Webwasher can protect against known malicious sites as well as legitimate Web sites that have been compromised, he says.

Other enhancements to Webwasher 6.5 include real-time anti-malware protection by checking the active content of a Web page before it is downloaded. This version is also integrated with Secure Computing’s IronNet content monitoring and filtering product that inspects outbound content to prevent sensitive information from leaving the company unauthorized, Judge says. The company also has enhanced the management interface in this version, providing a security dashboard for real-time threat monitoring and reporting.

Webwasher 6.5 is available as a software package or integrated appliance and is priced starting at $3,000.
