DEMO `07: Nuvoiz looks to be the Skype of the enterprise

Company debuts softphone and VoIP controller.

Nuvoiz, a new company focused on developing mobile VoIP applications, on Tuesday launched its first products designed to be enterprise alternatives to Skype.

Called Nuvoiz SoftPhone and Nuvoiz VoIP Network Controller, the new products are designed to facilitate the integration of VoIP into the enterprise, says Chong-Jin Koh, Nuvoiz’s founder and CEO. Nuvoiz SoftPhone, which runs on a PC or PDA, is a SIP-based softphone with features including voice, presence, chat, file transfer, call transfer, and call recording. The Nuvoiz VoIP Network Controller manages the deployment of the softphone and lets administrators monitor traffic, he says.

“Enterprise users want a VoIP application with terrific sound quality that is IM-based, intuitive, and mobile, while enterprise IT executives demand a scalable, secure, and easy-to-deploy VoIP system,” says Koh.

The Nuvoiz Softphone interoperates with other softphones and IM products and features a user interface designed for simple navigation and a high level of voice quality that is powered by Oki Electric Industry’s eSound Engine. The Nuvoiz VoIP Network Controller allows network administrators to centrally provision and secure the softphone.

Both products are available now. Specific pricing was not announced.

Founded last year, Nuvoiz says it competes with CounterPath, Avaya, IPblue, and Eyeball Networks. The company is based in Mountain View, Calif., and has raised $3 million in venture capital.
