Among the companies making announcements at DEMO '07 related to Web services is Soasta, which will demonstrate a service that tests the quality, compliance, and performance of Web applications and services.
Soasta Concerto, slated for availability in March, uses a visual metaphor of digital media creation to help users perform unit, functional, load, performance, and regression testing on Web applications and services, according to the company. The browser-based service features visual editors that let users place components onto a “mixing board” based on a timeline, and then play them against a Web service target. Those tests can be captured and tweaked within the visual editor, officials say.
“As we increasingly move toward service-oriented architectures (SOA), testing becomes a mandate for today's enterprises,” says Ken Gardner, founder and executive chairman of Soasta, in a prepared statement. “Services are being built and deployed in real time and the need for an affordable, easy to use solution that can immediately pinpoint test failures has never been greater. “
Soasta Concerto tests applications and services more quickly and at a lower cost than competing offerings because it requires less technical expertise and human involvement, officials say. Tests can be created and executed within minutes, they say, and users only pay for the portion of the service they use.
The service will be priced on a subscription basis. Specific pricing information was not released.
Based in Mountain View, Calif., Soasta says it competes with Mindreef, Parasoft, Mercury Interactive, and iTKO. The company has raised $2.25 million in venture funding to date.
