Websense this week announced a new auditing component to its data-leak prevention Content Protection Suite of software, as well as a new feature to its ThreatSeeker technology that scores Web sites based on their reputations.

Announced at the RSA Conference '07, the Websense Content Protection Suite now includes the Websense Content Auditor, software that identifies sensitive data on a network, which employees have accessed it, and for what purpose, according to company officials. By doing so, the software can pinpoint gaps or problems with a company’s business policy or its implementation of government regulations if, for example, it finds employees accessing certain data that should not be available to them.

Websense’s Content Protection Suite is based on technology it acquired with its purchase of PortAuthority late last year. The suite also includes the Websense Content Enforcer, which administers and implements a company’s compliance and risk-management policies.

The upgraded Content Protection Suite is available now. Pricing was not disclosed.

Also on Tuesday Websense announced a new feature in its ThreatSeeker malicious content and categorization technology, part of the company’s Web Security Suite. The new feature classifies Web sites based on their reputation scores; high risk sites are identified and added to a threat `watch list’ for blocking, officials say.

The upgraded ThreatSeeker is slated for release in the second quarter. Pricing was not announced.
