Oakley Networks on Tuesday announced an upgrade to its data leak prevention software to enable greater integration with enterprise applications.

SureView 4.0 includes a software developer’s kit (SDK) that lets organizations integrate the product with any commercial or proprietary application they may be running, says Ken Davis, vice president of product development at Oakley. With this SDK, organizations can allow any application to be monitored by SureView, which collects events down to the application and file level to reconstruct a “play back” when needed, he says.

Oakley’s original customer base is government agencies – the company only began selling SureView to commercial organizations in late 2005 – which tend to have a relatively consistent architecture, Davis says. With Version 4.0, the company is responding to enterprise customers’ demands for greater flexibility and integration with a variety of environments, he says.

Other enhancements to SureView include performance improvements in both the server and desktop components and the ability to deploy more complex policies, Davis says.

SureView operates at the desktop to detect and prevent sensitive data from leaving a company without authorization via e-mail, instant messaging, Web browsers, removable media and printing. The software monitors and analyzes usage against predefined policies to identify security breaches, Davis says. SureView feeds information into Oakley’s complementary network-based appliance.

Oakley did not announce pricing for SureView 4.0.
