Akorri today unveiled software that monitors and analyzes server and storage resources allocated for VMware virtual environments with an eye toward solving performance bottlenecks and improving service.
Akorri BalancePoint 1.5 adds support for VMware virtual machines -- both host and guest operating systems -- and Oracle databases. BalancePoint maps the server and storage resources for each application and can recommend areas where performance and availability can be improved.
BalancePoint 1.5 consists of Examiner and Analyzer modules installed on a network-attached rack-mounted appliance. It supports the monitoring, collection and analysis of Windows, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris and VMware servers and EMC, IBM, HP, Sun, Engenio, and Dot Hill storage.
BalancePoint’s cross-domain look at application performance and utilization lets IT administrators effectively plan for increased capacity or computing resources.
The BalancePoint Examiner for VMware bolsters VMware VirtualCenter management capability by looking at the server and storage resources applications running on VMware use. BalancePoint Analyzer for VMware identifies resource contention and recommends methods for improving service levels.
In addition, Akorri is announcing that BalancePoint will now be able to predict performance for the next 48 hours based on historical behavior gathered and be able to assess storage system utilization and performance to balance workloads among storage resources.
BalancePoint competes with Onaro’s SANscreen Application Insight, which also monitors and analyzes the alignment of application performance with storage resources.
Akorri’s BalancePoint is priced on the amount of capacity managed and the operating systems managed. A midrange installation would start at $150,000.
