EMC and capacity-planning vendor MonoSphere on Monday announced enhancements to products to support virtualized environments and long-distance replication.

EMC rolled out a new version of its ControlCenter management software that supports VMware virtual machine environments, expanded custom reporting and support for management of its Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) and reporting on Clariion storage-array performance.

MonoSphere also introduced capacity planning for EMC Symmetrix Business Continuance Volumes and Remote Data Facility replication, as well as capacity planning for EMC’s midrange Clariion arrays.

EMC’s ControlCenter 6.0 now supports VMware ESX Server environments and gives the user the ability to monitor, provision new virtual machines and report on virtualized server environments. It provides an end-to-end view of ESX server from the physical and logical relationships to storage and enables efficient storage allocation.

With ControlCenter 6.0, customers can view the properties, capacity and usage information for an ESX server and its virtual machines. They can discover and report on VMware guests and determine the guest name, operating system version and IP address. Further they can start and stop virtual machines and ESX servers and mask and zone storage to VMware guests.

MonoSphere’s Storage Horizon 2.2’s enhancements are intended specifically for those customers with EMC equipment. It can map associations within Business Continuance Volumes and Remote Data Facility, showing which LUNs are assigned to which volumes on the host computer. The software can help a customer answer ‘How much storage do I have?’, ‘How much is used?’ and ‘How fast is my usage growing?’

Support for VMware ESX Server and the enhanced reporting capability is available to customers at no charge. Storage Horizon 3.2 pricing is determined by the number of terabytes managed. Storage Horizon 3.2 pricing is determined by the number of terabytes managed.
