Summer Reading List One Crazy Summer
Usually dismissed as a "teen summer comedy," this 1986 movie offers much more than your typical '80s fare. Stars John Cusack as a lovable loser nicknamed "Hoops" who goes away with his friend to Nantucket for the summer. Craziness ensues as a typical '80s plot develops, including a fight against a real-estate developer, a wacky sailboat race around the island, and lots of minor subplots that really don't matter much. There's a lot of lame gags that work some of the time, but the best parts of the movie are provided by Bobcat Goldthwaite, who steals the movie in a scene where he gets stuck inside a Godzilla costume.
