Messaging vendor Mirapoint on Monday announced a deal with Nokia that includes the cell phone giant releasing a version of its Intellisync Mobile Suite to work with Mirapoint’s messaging security appliances.
The combination of Nokia’s mobile suite with Mirapoint’s appliances ensures that corporate mobile-device users have safe access to their company applications and data, company officials say.
IDC estimates there will be 850 million mobile and remote workers by 2009 -- one employee out of four in the global workplace.
Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite for Mirapoint, which is slated to be available in the third quarter, delivers e-mail and calendar data to compatible mobile devices from Mirapoint’s security appliances, the vendors say. It locks devices and wipes data remotely, so that enterprises can lock-down or erase the data from stolen or lost devices. In addition, companies can take advantage of file and application synchronization and device-management capabilities.
Illinois Tool Works in Glenview is evaluating the new product and expects to deploy it for its 16,000 users of Mirapoint’s security appliances.
“We get more and more requests as workers are out of the office that they want to stay connected and get to e-mail on mobile devices, but we want them to adhere to the business-unit security policies and procedures,” says Marc Palano, director of IT.
Pricing for Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite for Mirapoint has not been announced.
