AT&T on Tuesday announced a new service that lets mobile users share video content on their wireless phones while simultaneously having a voice conversation.
AT&T’s new CEO and Chairman Randall Stephenson launched the company's Video Sharing service at NXTcomm in Chicago.
The live-video streaming service is aimed at consumers looking to share videos of a baby walking for the first time or your pal’s new skateboarding moves.
Video Sharing is available in three markets: Atlanta, Dallas and San Antonio. The carrier says it will expand the service to all 160 3G markets starting in July.
Customers on both ends of a Video Sharing call need to have handsets that support video content. The service is supported only on AT&T’s network.
AT&T says it is using its Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform to support this new service.
It costs $4.99 per month for 25 minutes of use; $9.99 per month for 60 minutes. Customers also have the option of paying for the service, at $.35 cents a minute, each time it is used.
