German chip maker Infineon Technologies AG has agreed to buy Texas Instruments Inc.'s DSL Customer Premises Equipment business in a deal expected to close by the end of the summer, the companies said.
The companies did not disclose the value of the deal or other questions, such as possible layoffs or how the new business will be run.
"The deal is still pending regulatory clearance," said David Ong, a spokesman for Infineon based in Singapore. He said the company will be able to reveal more about the transaction after it's been approved.
The DSL (digital subscriber line) CPE business develops networking technologies aimed at delivering music, TV, movies and other content from the Internet to user TVs and PCs. The chips developed by the group go into a range of products, including gateways and routers.
Infineon said it will continue to support existing TI customers and designs to ensure continuity of products, in addition to using the purchase to build new technologies.
