LG NAS Adds Blu-ray Drive
11/21/09
LG's N4B1 NAS box is neither a comprehensive media server nor a particularly fast performer, but as a network-attached storage device, it's quick enough for home/small-business file serving. The unit--available at this writing for around $700--is also the sturdiest and quite possibly the best-looking such box I've had my hands on. You also can't beat it's HTML configuration interface for looks or ease of learning and use. But none of that compares to the N4B1's most outstanding feature: an integrated Blu-ray burner, unique among NAS products in the SMB/SOHO market.

The InterScan Gateway Security Appliance line is used for gateway-based URL filtering for corporate users as well as content filtering of spam, antivirus and antispyware. Trend Micro is bolstering this defense through its reputation services, which identify malicious Web sites and sources of spam.

“These reputation services are done in Trend’s data centers," says Bill Hansy, Trend Micro’s product marketing manager. There, an ongoing analysis of the life cycle of hundreds of millions of Web domains leads to an assessment of the trustworthiness of the site. Web sites that come and go at a very fast rate, for example, are probably involved in activities associated with botnets or spam, and InterScan users have the option of filtering this content out.

InterScan Gateway Security Appliance, which supports Trend Micro’s reputation services, is available in eight models that start at $4,490.
