PGP Corp. today announced it is adding support for Adobe PDF attachments to its PGP Universal Gateway Email for encrypting e-mail and attachments.
The PGP Universal Gateway Email currently includes options for securing messages through a Web e-mail interface. In addition to adding PDF support, PGP says it is adding a function called “certified delivery,” which can record and log that a message has been successfully delivered to the recipient.
The next edition of the PGP gateway will be able to “take the mail coming in and convert it into an encrypted PDF,” says John Dasher, director of product management. “There’s an added password, and the person receiving it types it in to decrypt it.”
To make use of the encrypted PDF capability, the e-mail recipient will need to have a Web browser and standard PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat. Support for PDF attachments and the certified delivery function will be available before the end of the year. Pricing has not been announced.
