Trend Micro today announced updated consumer desktop anti-malware packages, and released a new product, Internet Security Pro, intended to protect customers engaged in online transactions.
Trend Micro’s AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2008 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, which includes anti-malware protection, anti-spam and firewall, have faster performance than their earlier versions because the programs are designed to have 50% reduced memory consumption, say executives from Trend Micro.
Trend Micro's new desktop software, Internet Security Pro, includes the company's anti-malware and firewall, and adds features such as malicious URL detection, keystroke encryption and a "Wi-Fi advisor" to warn users against trying to access so-called "evil twin" WLANs.
“Internet Security Pro is for consumers doing transactions online,” says Carol Carpenter, vice president of marketing at Trend Micro. “It has the antivirus and antispyware, but we’re also providing Web threat protection by looking on the back end for new malicious URLs and when we’ll actually block that with a warning.”

One of the main changes in Trend Micro’s Internet Security 2008 product is the addition of a proactive intrusion-prevention blocking capability.
The 2008 edition of the three products will be available in retail stores in North America in October and online starting Sept. 27. Internet Security Pro costs $69.95 for use on up to three PCs for one year. Internet Security 2008 costs $49.95 for up to three PCs for one year. Trend Micro’s AntiVirus and AntiSpyware 2008 costs $39.95 for a single PC for one year. Separate licensing plans are expected to be available through various retail channels for small businesses, according to Trend Micro.
