Nortel names global sales chief

New Nortel exec comes from EMC
By Jim Duffy , Network World , 01/08/2008

Nortel this week named William Nelson executive vice-president of Global Sales, effective Jan. 18.

The position is new, according to Nortel. Dion Joannou, president of the company's North American operations, left last summer.

Nelson will report to Nortel CEO Mike Zafirovski.

Nelson comes to Nortel from EMC, where was senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Resource Management Software Group, an organization focused on the development and sale of applications, network, and storage management tools.

He also spent 16 years at AT&T and Lucent in various positions, including president of Lucent's Service Provider Operations Group; global sales and product management leadership for Lucent's Enterprise Communications Systems Group, which was spun out as Avaya; and general manager for the Wireless Networks Group.

In all, Nelson has more than 30 years of information technology and telecom experience. Nelson will be based in Nortel's offices in Billerica, Mass.
