In a series of demos showing how applications can be made for the iPhone, Apple called on several companies to come on stage and show what they have done. One of those companies was America Online,
showing off its Instant Messenger client AIM.
AOL showed a live buddy list and chats in a series of boxes with text and buddy icons. If you have several chats going at
once, you simply swipe your finger across the screen to go to the next chat window.
A profile window allows you to set you chat status and you can use your iPhone photos to set your buddy icon.
"We're really looking forward to working with Apple to bring AIM to the iPhone," said the AOL representative.
Apple also showed a game that its developers wrote. In two weeks the company came up with an OpenGL game called Touch Fighter
that utilizes the accelerometer to fly a ship by moving the phone, and tapping on the screen to fire.
Electronic Arts (EA) wanted to make a game that took advantage of the accelerometer, video and audio, so they did something
with Spore, an upcoming game from the company.
The accelerometer controls the spore moving around on the screen, in a game where you're trying to eat anything smaller than
you and avoid anything larger than you. EA said it took two days to get the game up and running using the iPhone SDK.
Other demos included Salesforce, Epocrates and Sega.
