Juniper this week tapped another former Sun executive to head its emerging technologies unit.

David Yen, executive vice president, emerging technologies, spent 20 years at Sun in a number of executive assignments. Most recently, Yen was executive vice president of Sun's Microelectronics group, overseeing the company's developments in network, cryptography and high-performance computing.

Prior roles at Sun include leading Sun's storage group and serving as vice president and general manager for its enterprise server business. He was also executive vice president of processor and network products and executive vice president of scalable systems.

Yen also served in engineering roles at IBM Research for manufacturing automation and TRW for advanced processor development. He holds three U.S. patents.

Yen will join Juniper’s executive team, reporting to CEO Scott Kriens. He will lead the company’s emerging technology initiatives in high-performance computing and networking.

The former Sun exec is the third Sun veteran to be recruited recently by Juniper. Others include CFO Robyn Denholm and Mark Bauhaus, head of the company’s Service Layer Technology group.
