XO Communications announced Monday that it has added roaming features to its IP Flex service that are tailored toward remote office work.
XO, a competitive local exchange carrier, says that its new XO Anywhere package is available for subscribers of both XO IP Flex and XO IP Flex with VPN. The service has four primary components: a simultaneous ring feature that allows as many as 10 different devices to be programmed with the same number; a remote office feature that lets users work from any location as if they are working from their main office; a click-to-call feature; and a toolbar that integrates all the new features into Web browsers and e-mail clients.
Nic Jackson, XO's director of IP and converged services, says that one of XO Anywhere's key money-saving features is its ability to charge business calls made to and from home phones to the user's corporate account. Caller ID information for XO Anywhere remains the same no matter where the user is located – thus, a phone call dialed from home will appear to the recipient as though it is dialed from the main office. Additionally, the click-to-call feature lets users dial contacts in Microsoft Outlook, and even on Web sites, with a single click.
The XO Anywhere toolbar, which brings all the services together in a single package, can be placed in Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. XO says that the features currently aren't compatible with Macs or Apple browsers.
XO IP Flex is XO's bundled voice and data service that also includes features such as visual voice mail, caller ID and direct inward dialing extensions.
