VMware Fusion 2.0 goes beta

By Peter Cohen , Macworld , 05/06/2008

VMware has released the first public beta version of Fusion 2.0, a new release of their virtualization software for Mac OS X. It's available for download, and VMware has noted that when it's available as a final release, it'll be a free upgrade for registered Fusion 1.x users.

VMware Fusion enables Intel-based Mac users to run Windows and other operating systems in virtual machines, alongside their Mac OS X installation, without having to reboot first. With Fusion installed you can run software that will only run on Windows or Linux operating systems, at the same time as you run your Mac software.

Enhancements in the new beta release include support for multiple displays, tools for easier switching to VMware Fusion, experimental support for DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2 3D acceleration, the ability to import Parallels Desktop and Virtual PC for Mac virtual machines, improved printing, and user interface refinements.
