Paragon Software Group has introduced a free utility for Macs, Rescue Kit for Mac OS X - Lite.

The software aims to help Mac users recover from system problems by rescuing data and restoring their systems.

The solution offers tools for data recovery and ships with fully automated wizards that help users back-up and restore partitions.

"In the event of a serious system malfunction, the ideal recovery solution would enable you to employ a recovery tool 'after the event to get your system up and running in as little time as possible, with no loss or corruption of your sensitive data," said Konstantin Komarov, CEO of Paragon Software Group.

The company says its solution is unique in being able to perform a sector-level back-up, enabling users to backup and restore the entire system "much faster than typical utilities available today".

The software also includes a File Transfer Wizard, which gives end users complete access to any file system, even those not supported by the OS or even if it is on an unmounted partition.

The software will perform a full back-up/restore and/or file/folder rescue even if the operating system cannot be loaded, including a file browser to enable restoration of data on a file or folder basis.

The introductory Rescue Kit for Mac OS X - Lite version is available for free, The full version ships in the third quarter, the company said.
