Globacom is to build an additional 1,500 base stations nationwide before the end of this year to boost its operations.

Speaking at the Abuja Trade Fair at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Globacom Chief Operating Officer Mohammed Jameel said the telco plans to build base stations across the nooks and crannies of the country to take care of current and new subscribers on Africa's fastest growing network.

A press statement from the telco quoted Jameel as saying that the additional base stations would allow an estimated 35 million subscribers to use the network.

Abuja Regional Manager Victor Ochukenyi said the additional base stations will boost Globacom's switch capacity to accommodate an additional 35 million subscribers, ensuring they can make and receive calls without a hitch.

Jameel said that as part of the effort to guarantee quality voice and data services at affordable rates, the company is deploying a submarine cable that will link the West Africa sub-region from Lagos and Bonny to Europe, and also have a dedicated link in the United States.

He applauded Globacom subscribers for their patronage, reiterating that its network is continually expanding.

"We are committed to customers satisfaction and empowering many more Nigerians. Our mission to deliver world class communication solutions and services to all sectors of the Nigerian society remains sacrosanct," he said.

Earlier, Director-General of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce Joe Wenegieme thanked Globacom for collaborating with the Chamber to support this year's Fair. He commended Glo's work, especially its poverty alleviation drive and quest to empower Nigerians.

"I am proud to note the excellent and world class facilities deployed around the country by Globacom. This company is Nigeria's pride and we are happy to have the network partner with us," he said.
