Nigeria dangles incentives for ICT investors

By Remmy Nweke , IDG News Service , 05/13/2008

Nigeria is offering incentives to encourage foreign direct investment in the country, especially in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Some of these incentives include pioneer status, facilitation of easy entry, tax holidays and security for investment.

Minister of State for Information and Communication Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande made this known in Cairo, Egypt at a "Spotlight on Nigeria" session held at Telecom Africa 2008.

He told the audience that Nigeria has created a name for herself as one of the fastest-growing telecom markets in the world.

"For those who still have interest in the opportunity is still there, so you're welcome," he said.

"We have a stability in policy," Nakande reassured potential investors, adding that the regulator and the agency have been there for some time now and were only working for an improved policy and environment.

The minister also said that incentives would enable new investors to tap the advantages in Nigeria.
