According to research by IT management company CA, of 250 U.K. business surveyed, 79% admitted to losing data at least once a month, while 28% identified that they suffered data losses on a weekly or more frequent basis.
The survey also highlighted that many IT departments suffer from underinvestment. Sixty-eight percent of IT managers claim that they have insufficient budgets and 45% expressed their frustration that IT costs were overlooked in favor of new business ventures.
The survey follows an amendment to the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill which makes mislaying personal data a criminal offense.
