Silver Peak Systems is introducing a 1Gbps version of its WAN-optimization box geared for high-volume data center-to-data center traffic or for central sites that optimized traffic to multiple branches.
NX-9000 has two 10Gbps physical WAN ports that each support 1Gbps optimized throughput and four 1Gbps ports that serve as LAN connections. The device supports more than 250,000 simultaneous TCP flows, as well as disk encryption and wire-speed encryption of traffic flowing across the network.
Part of the optimization includes local caching of traffic patterns that have already crossed the WAN so shorter markers representing those patterns can be sent instead, reducing total WAN traffic. The device includes an 8TB hard drive to store the cached patterns.
Competitor Riverbed's WAN optimization gear tops out at 800Mbps for a single box, and can be clustered for a total speed of 4Gbps, the company says. (Compare WAN optimization and application acceleration products.) Cisco says its WAN optimization WAE 7371 gear has a throughput of 1Gbps.
NX-9000 costs $260,000.
