Asustek plans to launch a small multimedia desktop PC at Computex, the Essentio CS5110, armed with a disc player to read and write Blu-ray Disc high-definition digital video.

The device is part of Asustek's Eee Station series of mini-desktops, which all come in white or black. The mini-PCs will come with Intel Core 2 Duo microprocessors, and will offer the Blu-ray Disc drives as an option.

Prices for the mini-PCs will range from around NT$20,000 to NT$50,000 (US$657 to $1,642) and the Blu-ray Disc drive option will mean a price tag of at least NT$40,000, an Asustek representative said.

The CS5110 is a high end mini-PC meant for gaming and movies, offering top picture quality in 1080p high-definition video via the Blu-ray Disc drives and Nvidia GeForce 8600GT graphics chips and up to 4G bytes of DRAM.

The Eee Station range also includes the ES5000, which has an ATI graphics chip instead.

Asustek hopes people will like the look of the new mini PCs because they're designed to be placed in the living room.
