Astaro is offering discounts to users of Cisco PIX security gear that has been discontinued in an effort to woo them away from Cisco. (See related story.)

Astaro will discount its Security Gateway 20% for anyone turning in a PIX that qualifies. Astaro is putting a green spin on the deal, promising to recycle the Cisco box.

Cisco is discontinuing the PIX firewall/VPN and hoping that will prod customers into buying its ASA platforms that perform the same functions plus more features and faster performance. ASAs can add virus, spam, phishing and URL filtering as well as support for VoIP.
