The latest Web security gateway software from Websense can inspect traffic in real time to protect Web surfers from dangerous or inappropriate content, including content on individually generated pages.
The retooled Websense Web Security Gateway represents a break from the past because it can classify dynamic content, including that of social-networking sites, to advise end users about risks, says Steve Kelly, senior director of product management at the vendor.
“Historically, we would classify an entire site, but actual content is changing rapidly,” says Kelly. The updated Web Security Gateway, expected out by the end of June, will be able to inspect content as it is being downloaded in real time to the end user.
“It would either block it altogether or just warn that the content is not approved or even strip out certain parts of the content, such as the malicious content,” says Kelly.
Websense says its ThreatSeeker technology, which Websense researchers use to obtain a dynamic view of Web content, is aiding how the new version of Web Security Gateway works. (Compare secure Web gateways.)
Websense Web Security Gateway, which can run on a wide variety of servers or in appliances such as those from Crossbeam, costs about $30 to $50 per seat, depending on volume.
