3Com this week named a former Cisco manager as its new senior vice president of worldwide products and solutions.
Saar Gillai, a 20-year industry veteran, will be responsible for defining the company’s long-term vision for product lines and solutions, including road map, pricing and positioning, and requirements. He will work with 3Com’s R&D and sales teams, and report to President and COO Ron Sege.
Gillai spent seven years at Cisco in a variety of positions, including vice president of engineering for the company’s wireless networking business unit. (Compare wireless products.)
Cisco shipped more than $1.5 billion in wireless LAN products during his tenure.
Saar also held management positions in product development for Cisco’s desktop switching business unit and multiservice switching business unit, where he worked with service providers on next-generation network architectures.
In addition to Cisco, Gillai worked at Newbridge Networks as well as several start-up companies.\
Prior to joining 3Com, Gillai was senior vice president of product development and operations for Enfora, a supplier of wireless networking products. He joined Enfora from Tropos Networks, where he was vice president of engineering and product management.
