British visa seekers in Sierra Leone will now have to book appointments online, according to the British High Commission in Freetown.
"From 6 October 2008, if you wish to submit a new application for UK entry clearance, you will need to make an appointment online," a statement from the High Commission read. "You will be able to select the date and time of your appointment when you complete the online visa application form."
Before Monday, it was necessary to deliver printed documents to the High Commission in person without an appointment. The new service, however, will give applicants control over the process and result in less waiting time, according to the British High Commission.
British visa applications from neighboring Guinea and Liberia are also processed through the High Commission in Freetown, as there are no visa offices in those countries.
The U.S. embassy introduced online visa interview appointments in Sierra Leone in 2007, just as it started issuing non-immigrant visas after 10 years.
