Google is hosting its first Google Developer Day in Bangalore on Saturday, to share information with Indian developers about the
company's tools and about Web application development in general.
India has a large number of software developers, many of whom are employed in the country's outsourcing industry or development subsidiaries of multinational
technology companies, and many technology companies, including competitor Yahoo, hold events for developers.
The Bangalore event will have about 400 developers, including self-employed workers and those working for start-ups and larger
companies, a Google spokesman said Wednesday.
The company had over 1,000 more developers sign up for the event, but could not accommodate them as it ran out of space at
the event hall, according to the spokesman. It is making all the sessions available on its video sharing site YouTube after
the event, he added.
Besides sessions from Google engineers, the event will also have "codelabs" where developers will be able to put content into
practice, the spokesman added.
The sessions will cover Google APIs and tools such as Google Web Toolkit, Google App Engine, and OpenSocial. Sessions on Indian
languages will teach developers to use tools that Google is developing to help Indians experience the web in their native
language, the company said.
Google hosts the Developer Day in 15 locations worldwide. Similar events in Milan, Prague and Moscow are also scheduled this
month.
