Despite Apple's best efforts to make some inroads in the office software field, a new study by Microsoft says that 77% of Mac users in the U.S. run Microsoft Office (I guess I can at least account for one of those).

15 great Microsoft Office optimization tools

Even though Apple does have its own version of word processing suite software--a little thing you may have heard of called iWork--I mainly stick with Word simply because I'm exchanging a lot of files with editors and others and, for better or worse, Word is the industry standard. I suppose I could be a stickler and use iWork or OpenOffice, but it's too much hassle given that these other alternatives don't, I believe, support those side edit bubbles.

Seattle tech blog TechFlash reported on the Microsoft study:

"This has been a more complete piece of research" than Microsoft conducted internally in the past, said Amanda Lefebvre, senior marketing manager in Microsoft's Mac Business Unit.

At the same time, the U.S. focus is a limitation. "We anticipate that it will be proportional worldwide, but we just don't know yet, so we're looking to run more research in additional regions, as well," Lefebvre said.

So, Mac users? How many of you run Microsoft Office, despite your deep, long-abiding distaste for Redmond?
