Gamasutra reports that a brand-new video game console, Tectoy/Qualcomm's Zeebo, will be released this year. The Zeebo will first be released in Brazil and then later be distributed in other countries around the globe.
Instead of trying to beat out current next-gen consoles like the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii, the Zeebo will take advantage of the growing popularity of downloadable games as Zeebo owners will buy everything they play on it from an Xbox Live/PSN/Wii Channel-like service called Zeebonet. Connecting to the wireless network will also be entirely free.
Numerous big video game companies have already signed on as partners of the new console, including Electronic Arts, Activision, Namco, Capcom, Sega and id Software.
