Apple is nearing the release of its redesigned iMac according to Kaufman senior analyst Shaw Wu.

The company, which supplies research and investing information, claims Apple is "almost ready" to launch updated iMacs but is still determining whether it will use the low-power Core 2 Quads or the faster Core 2 Duos with extra cache, though it's not known whether these last chips would be desktop or mobile parts suggests tech site Electronista.

Earlier reports suggested that Apple was waiting on a special round of Intel desktop Core 2 Quad chips to update its iMacs with quad-core processors.

The move would see the addition of quad-core processors in an all-in-one desktop computers such as the Apple iMac for the first time.

Analyst Shaw Wu is also quoted as all saying a "small technical hurdle" is holding up release of the iMacs although no further details are forthcoming.

Wu maintains a "buy" recommendation for Apple stock and a $120 price target he deems cautious.
