Avaya has launched an online energy saving calculator to help companies determine how much energy they can save by using flexible working practices.
The firm is a global provider of business communications software, systems and services.
The calculator determines how many kilowatts of energy, tonnes of carbon and litres of petrol or diesel can be saved annually based on the number of home working days a company permits.
The results include the amount of energy saved by reductions in heating and lighting at office locations and by staff not travelling back and forth to work on a daily basis.
The calculator also suggests a range of unified communications solutions that can help companies achieve their flexible working and business productivity goals.
Good for the bottom line
"We know that smarter working practices are good for the bottom line and good for the environment generally. The Avaya energy saving calculator helps companies quantify the impact their actions have both on their business and the planet," said Tan Choon Seng, vice president, contact centre business, Avaya Asia Pacific.
The global computing sector contributes two per cent of worldwide carbon emissions, according to research firm Gartner, reports news agency Reuters. This equals that of the aviation industry.
