StillSecure is looking to get into the security services business with the acquisition of ProtectPoint today.

Hottest tech M&A deals of 2008

Florida-based ProtectPoint sells managed security services, including firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, antispam, antivirus, and content filtering to businesses with 500 to 5,000 employees. (Learn more about IDS/IPS products). These services will be based on StillSecure products SafeAccess, Strata Guard and VAM.

Pricing depends on the size of the deployment and the number of services supplied, but as an example a managed firewall/IPS service including 24-hour monitoring costs less than $1,000 per month, says Alan Shimel, chief strategy officer for StillSecure.

The company says customers are leaning more toward security services as threats become more sophisticated and businesses are challenged to supply in-house expertise to combat them.

StillSecure and ProtectPoint are privately held and would not state the cost of the purchase.
