7digital.com, Songbird team up for MP3 download service

7digital, the download site offering MP3 tracks, music videos, films and audiobooks, is to team up with Songbird, an application for discovering and organising your music collection.

Songbird is a free, open, customisable, desktop music player designed to help listeners use their existing collections to discover and acquire new music.

Songbird users in Europe and the US will now be able to purchase, download and transfer music from 7digital.com's 6 million strong high-quality 320kbps MP3 catalogue.

Songbird is a free, open, customisable, desktop music player designed to help listeners use their existing collections to discover and acquire new music.

Songbird users in Europe and the US will now be able to purchase, download and transfer music from 7digital.com's 6 million strong high-quality 320kbps MP3 catalogue.

When a track or album is downloaded from 7digital in Songbird, it is automatically downloaded into the user's Songbird library.

Users can click the 7digital Music Store link in Songbird's left-hand menu to access the store and purchase tracks, without ever leaving the Songbird application.

The 7digital store makes music recommendations based on the most recently played songs in Songbird.

Pricing will be based on geographical location and will correspond to pricing on the local 7digital website.

A portion of the revenue generated from tracks purchased via 7digital will go towards further developing Songbird, says the company.

Compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux, Songbird requires an Intel-based machine running Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

The 7digital and Songbird integrated service is available now at getsongbird.com and direct purchase of MP3s is available in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and the US.
