China Telecom has partnered Huawei Technologies for the commercial launch of their new third-generation CDMA networks in 52 Chinese cities, said the telco.

China Telecommunications (China Telecom), a state-owned telecom operator in China, owns the largest fixed-line telephone network in China. Huawei Technologies (Huawei) provides next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators.

Using Huawei's equipment, China Telecom's third-generation CDMA services are now available for the first time in 52 cities, including eight of the 10 largest cities in China, such as Beijing and Tianjin, and in the Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shandong and Shaanxi provinces.

Huawei's innovative third-generation CDMA network solutions have enabled China Telecom to upgrade its existing CDMA2000 1X networks to third-generation EV-DO (evolution-data optimised) while lowering deployment costs and ensuring uninterrupted services.

Nation-wide 3G CDMA network

"It is very exciting to see third-generation CDMA services going live for the first time across China and Huawei is proud to have contributed to this important milestone," said Zhao Ming, vice president of wireless, Huawei.

"There is no doubt that these world-class mobile communications technologies will generate enormous economic and social benefits for China. We are looking forward to completing the nation-wide construction of China Telecom's state-of-the-art next generation mobile communications network so that these benefits can be realised," said Zhao.
